Society for the Environment

The Society for the Environment is an umbrella body which licenses professional institutions to register their members as Chartered Environmentalists.

Chartered Environmentalists have demonstrated their skills experience and knowledge of the environment and sustainability during a rigorous assessment. 24 professional bodies are licensed to carry out these assessments, covering engineering, construction, environmental management, ecology, environmental sciences, agriculture, fisheries, water, energy, wastes and resource management, surveying, arboriculture and forestry. Only professional members of recognised institutions are eligible to register.

The aim is to ensure that professionals whose activities have an impact on the environment exercise their skills and knowledge to minimise harmful effects using established best practice and innovative new approaches.
